Greenville, SC – The SMC Men's Soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 1-0 victory against non conference opponent Bob Jones University. This is the second season where the Pioneer's have traveled to play the Bruins under the lights in Greenville, SC. Coach Hughes, a native of Greenville, SC, likes the overall atmosphere of the game and the tough test that the Bruins always present. "We love traveling to play BJU and its something that our guys looked forward to on the schedule especially with it being there first home game", said Coach Hughes. "There overall play and the atmosphere the fans bring really provided a spark for us to go out and compete for 90 mins". Freshman Jakari Davis scored the only goal of the contest off of an assist by Hykeem Martin. " BJU defended really well and it was hard for us to generate quality shots on frame but in the end we got the win and that's what matters".
The Pioneer's start conference play at home on Wednesday, August 29 at 4:00pm against Cape Fear Community College.
