Pioneers Drop Pair on Final Day of TMU Invitational
Cleveland, Ga. – The Spartanburg Methodist College beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the TMU Invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers fell by identical 3-0 decisions to LaGrange and host Truett McConnell.
SMC (0-3, 0-1 SUN) opened the day in a tough battle with LaGrange. After a forfeit at the No. 4 pair, the Pioneers found themselves down 1-0. The Panthers' duo at the No. 2 position then edged the SMC pair of Arielle Deas and Katherine James, 21-11, 21-14, for a 2-0 lead. LaGrange clinched the match at the No. 3 position, where Courtney Brackett and Brook Noe fell by a 21-10, 21-18 margin.
The day concluded with the host Bears also defeating the Pioneers, 3-0. TMU secured the victory with wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 pairs. SMC's No. 1 pair of Hana Vucinic and Rebekah Martin competed in both matches but were unable to finish, as the tournament was played in a decision-win format.
SMC will next travel to Erskine College on Saturday, Feb. 21, for a pair of matches at the Erskine Beach Volleyball Complex.
