Spartanburg, S.C. – A hat trick by Nomie Jerinic – including two second-half goals – lifted visiting Union Commonwealth to a 3-2 win over Spartanburg Methodist on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs erased a 2-1 deficit as Jerinic scored in the 74th and 81st minutes to secure the come-from-behind victory. Union Commonwealth held a 20-14 edge in shots, including a commanding 13-4 advantage in the second half.
SMC (3-5-4, 1-4-3 AAC) overcame an early 1-0 deficit in the first half. Valentina Garzon netted the equalizer in the ninth minute, her third goal of the season, tying Caroline Taylor for the team lead. Later in the half, Caitlin Lagos scored her first goal of the season on a free kick in the 44th minute to give the Pioneers a 2-1 advantage at the break.
Union Commonwealth (1-10, 1-6 AAC) controlled play after halftime. Jerinic tied the match in the 74th minute before heading home the game-winner in the 81st minute off a free kick.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they host Bluefield at noon.
