The Spartanburg Methodist College baseball team took to the road for the first time in 2026 to begin a three-game series with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on Saturday. The Pioneers dropped a twin bill to the host Stallions, 6-3 and 11-3, to fall to 4-3 on the season.
Game one saw ABAC limit the Pioneers to three hits in the win. SMC found itself down 3-0 after the first two innings before getting on the scoreboard in the sixth on a solo home run by Kohen Bridges. The Stallions answered with three runs in their half of the sixth for a 6-1 lead. The Pioneers mounted a comeback in the top of the ninth, scoring twice on just one hit to account for the final margin.
Bridges, along with Blake Exizian and Evan Smith, each had a hit, while Tanner Martin, Exizian, and Bridges each recorded an RBI for the Pioneers. Dylan Davis and Drew Rothschild each had two hits, and five different Stallions recorded an RBI in the win.
SMC starter Travis Dannecker was handed the loss, pitching five innings. Michael Mapes came on in relief and threw the final three innings, striking out five while facing 16 batters.
ABAC starter Reigh Jordan limited SMC to one hit — the Bridges home run — and struck out seven to raise his record to 2-0.
Game two saw ABAC score eight unanswered runs after SMC tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the second inning. The Stallions scored twice in the bottom of the second and plated six in the bottom of the fifth on their way to the win. Davis had two of the six hits, and Rothschild drove in three to lead the Stallions.
The lone hit for the Pioneers came from Bryce Satterwhite, who hit a two-run home run in the second inning.
Pioneer starter Greyson Wild took the loss after pitching four innings of four-hit baseball and striking out four. Stallions starter Trypp Lumpkin went five innings, struck out three, and overcame five walks to earn the win and improve to 2-1.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
