COLUMBIA, S.C. – Spartanburg Methodist College women's soccer stepped out of Appalachian Athletic Conference play for a non-conference matchup against NCAA Division II Allen University on Tuesday — and returned to its winning ways with a commanding 7-0 rout of the Yellow Jackets.
It was a complete team effort as junior Camila Moscoso set a school record with four goals, while Addie Hawkins added a pair in the win. Goalkeeper Ava Wilson made five saves, and in her Pioneer debut, Kaylee Clark added one save to help preserve the shutout.
SMC wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Hawkins scored just 20 seconds into the contest to set the tone early. Moscoso followed with two first-half goals to give the Pioneers a 3-0 halftime lead.
Allen was reduced to 10 players after a red card in the 43rd minute, and SMC quickly capitalized in the second half. Hawkins netted her second goal of the game just two minutes after the restart, and one minute later, Moscoso completed her hat trick off a brilliant pass from CJ Hawkins.
Vicky De Pa Press scored in the 58th minute, and Moscoso capped her record-breaking night with her fourth goal in the 80th minute to seal the dominant win.
Next up, Spartanburg Methodist returns to AAC play on Tuesday at 4 p.m. when the Pioneers host Senior Day against Columbia College at Nash Soccer Field.
