An early 13-0 run midway through the first quarter put host Bryan ahead for good on its way to a 78-58 win over the Spartanburg Methodist College women's basketball team on Tuesday afternoon.
Spartanburg Methodist College (4-5, 0-4 AAC) was led by Najah Gilliam with 15 points. She was joined in double figures by Kamya Hatten, who added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Krystal Johnson, who scored 10 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Zy Bell posted a career-high eight steals in the loss.
Bryan College (7-1, 5-0 AAC) was paced by a pair of 15-point scorers — Molly Brown and Kadee Ferrell. Reserve Ashlyn Plott contributed 13 points for the Lions.
Midway through the third quarter, Bell found Hatten for a layup to cut the deficit to 45-40. However, SMC was unable to draw any closer as Bryan tightened defensively and halted the Pioneers' comeback effort.
The Pioneers are now off for the Thanksgiving break before returning to action on Saturday, December 6, when they host Pikeville at Bridges Arena at 2 p.m.
