Milligan University Tops Spartanburg Methodist, 86-70
Milligan University defeated Spartanburg Methodist College 86-70 on Wednesday night, leading for the vast majority of the contest.
While a three-point play by CJ Terrell tied the game early at 13-13, the Buffs (7-16, 5-9 AAC) quickly reclaimed the lead by scoring six of the next eight points.
SMC (6-18, 4-12 AAC) remained competitive throughout the first half, narrowing the gap to 26-25 following a Kelton Teasley layup with five minutes remaining. However, Milligan closed the period on a 12-5 run to take a 38-30 advantage into halftime.
The Pioneers made one final push in the opening seconds of the second half, cutting the lead to 40-34. Milligan effectively silenced the comeback with a decisive 17-4 run over the following four minutes, maintaining a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Elijah Bredwood led the Buffs with a game-high 26 points, supported by Liviu Anton's double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Te'Jon McDaniel-McCormick also contributed 11 points and eight boards in the winning effort.
The Pioneers were paced by sophomore guard Kelton Teasley, who scored 18 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Musa Muriithi added 17 points, while CJ Terrell recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Looking ahead, Spartanburg Methodist travels to Cleveland, Georgia, to face Truett McConnell this Saturday at 4 p.m.
