Pioneers Post Two More School Records on Day Two of Tryon Winter Classic
The Spartanburg Methodist College track and field teams returned to action Saturday at the Tryon Winter Classic and Combined Events.
Highlighting the day, junior Romeo Brown claimed first place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.87. The performance stands as the fastest time in the Appalachian Athletic Conference this season and ranks as the second-fastest in program history.
Two school records were set on the men's side, led by freshman Chris Jennings in the shot put. Jennings broke his own school record by more than three feet with a throw of 43 feet, 2¼ inches (13.16 meters). His mark currently ranks eighth in the AAC.
The other record-setting effort came from Jared Chinloy in the long jump. Chinloy posted a jump of 20 feet, 6¼ inches (6.25 meters), eclipsing the previous school record by 5.25 inches. He finished just two centimeters shy of qualifying for the AAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Also, for the Pioneers, sophomore Javion Brannon qualified for the AAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 200 meters, clocking a time of 22.95. His performance ranks 15th in the conference this season.
