Bluefield, Va. – Three first-half goals powered the Spartanburg Methodist College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over host Bluefield on Saturday.
SMC broke a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute when Sierra Gies netted her first goal of the season off a pass from Caroline Taylor. Just over six minutes later, Vicky De Pa Presa scored her first collegiate goal to extend the Pioneers' lead to 2-0. Gies factored into the third goal of the half, assisting Addie Hawkins on her second goal of the season.
The Pioneers controlled possession throughout the match, outshooting Bluefield 19-0 and holding a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Bluefield goalkeeper Tori Staats recorded five saves in the loss.
SMC returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, traveling to face Brenau at 5 p.m.
