SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Despite a game-high 22 points from Destiny Middleton, the Spartanburg Methodist College women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2025–26 season, falling to Georgia Gwinnett, 60-49, on Saturday night.
The Pioneers (4-1) were limited to 31.4% shooting (16-for-51) in the loss. Georgia Gwinnett held SMC to just two field goals in the opening quarter and one in the final 10 minutes to seal the win.
The Grizzlies (5-1) avenged a 66-58 loss to the Pioneers on November 30, extending their winning streak to four straight in their inaugural season. Christen Collins led Georgia Gwinnett with 18 points, while Jamya Griffin added 13.
Clinging to a two-point lead entering the fourth quarter, the Grizzlies outscored the Pioneers 13-4 over the final 10 minutes, shooting 50% from the field to pull away for the win.
Next up, SMC continues its five-game homestand with its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener against Columbia (S.C.) on Wednesday, November 12, at 5:30 p.m. in Bridges Arena.
