SPARTANBURG, S.C. – An all-around team effort propelled the Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball team to its third straight win as the Pioneers defeated Union Commonwealth, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18, on Friday night.
SMC (7-12, 2-4 AAC) hit .272 as a team, led by senior Makinnley Smart, who posted a match-high 12 kills while hitting .550. Hana Vucinic added nine kills and a .316 hitting percentage.
Union Commonwealth (3-12, 3-2 AAC) spread its offense around but was hurt by 10 service errors. The Bulldogs finished with a .243 hitting percentage, paced by Emily Shumaker with nine kills and Berkli Benefield with eight.
For the Pioneers, setter Tristan Craine recorded a double-double with 19 assists and 10 digs, while Aurora Aho showcased her all-around play with seven kills, eight digs, and four service aces.
SMC returns to action quickly, hosting Johnson University in another AAC matchup on Saturday at 11 a.m. inside Bridges Arena.
