Brown Breaks School Record as Pioneers Qualify Multiple Athletes for AAC Indoor Championships
WINSTON SALEM, NC - Spartanburg Methodist College junior Romeo Brown highlighted the Pioneers' performance at the Camel City Sprints with a second-place finish in the seeded 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 21.40 to break his own school record on Friday.
Brown's mark ranks as the sixth-fastest time on the NAIA circuit in 2026 and stands as the fastest in the Appalachian Athletic Conference this season. The Newberry, S.C., native shaved .45 seconds off his previous school record. He also advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash, finishing seventh overall with a time of 6.87.
Several other Pioneers secured qualification for the upcoming Appalachian Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. Freshman Qya Clemmons (7.13) and sophomore Javion Brannon (7.17) earned AAC Championship berths in the 60-meter dash.
In the 200-meter dash, Brown was joined by freshman Jalen Johnson (23.02) and sophomore Qamari Govan (23.30), both of whom also punched their tickets to the conference meet.
Sophomore Jared Chinloy and freshman Matthew Radford made history by becoming the first race walkers in program history. Chinloy finished in 20:27.20, followed by Radford at 21:58.08.
The meet concluded with the Pioneers' 4x400-meter relay team of Parker Balog, Javion Brannon, Qya Clemmons, and Qamari Govan posting a time of 3:39.21 to finish eighth.
