Pioneers Drop Series Finale at ABAC
Tifton, Georgia — With the game tied at 2-2, Abraham Baldwin scored a run in both the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings on its way to a 4-2 win over Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday afternoon.
Spartanburg Methodist (4-4) was led by a two-hit day from Elijah Franz. Franz and Matt Smith each drove in a run for the Pioneers.
ABAC (3-0) plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth as Dylan Davis drove in his second run of the game. Billy Girgis led the Stallions with two hits to pace a nine-hit attack. The home team added an insurance run in the seventh for the final margin.
After a solo home run by Smith in the fourth cut the deficit to 2-1, SMC tied the game in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Franz. A flyout ended the inning with two runners stranded, preventing the Pioneers from taking their first lead of the weekend.
Both teams utilized three pitchers. SMC starter Luke Hartig went two innings in a no-decision. Hunter Doyle entered in relief in the third and was charged with the loss. For the Stallions, Kade Haywood went seven innings, struck out three, and improved to 3-0. Tre'von Lee pitched the final two innings to earn the save.
SMC remains on the road Tuesday, Feb. 17, with a 1 p.m. matchup at Toccoa Falls.
