SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Weather moved up the game time for the Spartanburg Methodist College women's soccer matchup against the University of Pikeville, but both teams showed no signs of fatigue as they played to a scoreless draw.
SMC (3-4-4, 1-3-3 AAC) was anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Ava Wilson, who withstood multiple offensive threats from the visiting Bears. The Greenville native rose to the occasion, facing 25 shots and recording a season-high 12 saves for her fourth shutout of the season.
Pikeville (6-0-4, 4-0-3 AAC) was led by Charlene Lofqvist, who tallied nine shots, including five on goal. Teammate Sara Ritter added eight shots, with five on frame. Despite the offensive pressure, Wilson and the Pioneer defense held firm. On the other end, Pikeville goalkeeper Nevaeh Brown was tested three times, finishing with three saves.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 1, when they host Union Commonwealth at 1 p.m.
