SMC Men’s Track & Field Sets Three School Records at Tyron Invitational
Spartanburg Methodist College men's track and field set three individual school records to lead the Pioneers at the Tyron Invitational - Banked Invitational on Friday.
Junior Ryan Hunter opened the day with a record-breaking performance in the 1000-meter run, surpassing the two-week-old school mark held by freshman Dante Hudnall by 1.34 seconds. Hunter crossed the finish line in 2:41.27.
Freshman Chris Jennings followed by breaking his own school record in the shot put, posting a throw of 43-9.75 (13.35m) to eclipse his previous mark by 7.5 inches. The third school record of the meet came from junior Parker Balog, who set a new standard in the 300 meters with a time of 37.41.
Junior Romeo Brown continued his strong indoor season with a third-place overall finish in the 60 meters, clocking 6.86. In the 1000 meters, sophomore Caleb Williams also delivered a personal-best performance, finishing in 2:41.79 alongside Hunter's record-setting run. Another PR for the Pioneers came in the 200m dash when freshman Qya Clemmons clocked a time of 22.93.
The Pioneers return to action Friday, Feb. 6, at the Camel City Sprints in Winston-Salem, N.C., at JDL Fast Track — the site of the upcoming AAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
