Four School Records Highlight SMC Men’s Track & Field at SWU GottaRun Invitational
Six individual qualifying performances for the Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, along with four new school records, highlighted the season-opening performance for the Spartanburg Methodist College men's track and field team at the SWU Gotta Run Invite.
In the field events, Chris Jennings had a strong debut with a school-record toss of 42-11.75 in the shot put and a school-record throw of 108-6 in the discus. His mark in the shot put secured him a spot at the AAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Also making his SMC debut, Devon Brown set a school record in the javelin with a throw of 154-3, earning a qualifying spot for the AAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships as well.
On Friday, Hunter won the 5000m run in 15:03.33, claiming a 14-second victory. Also on Friday, Calvin Kowalke set a new school record in the 3000m race walk with a time of 37:35.91, finishing just ahead of teammate Matthew Radford, who clocked 37:49.82. Dante Hudnall added a fourth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:47.88.
