Six SMC Teams Named NJCAA Academic Team of the Year
Six Spartanburg Methodist College teams were recognized as the NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year on Thursday. Among the teams honored was the SMC were on the men’s side: baseball, cross country, half marathon, and on the women’s side: beach volleyball, cross country, golf, and volleyball (court).
“Congratulations to everyone who helped make this happen,” said athletic director Megan Aiello. “There are many people who work tremendously hard to make sure our student-athletes are improving in the classroom just as much as they are on the participation surface. Most importantly, our student-athletes are responsible for making this happen. They put in the work and should be very proud of this tremendous academic achievement.”
With a team GPA of 3.73, the beach volleyball team and a team GPA of 3.52, the men’s half marathon, these two teams were recognized for having the top overall GPA in the NJCAA.
Spartanburg Methodist College was just one of four NJCAA member colleges with multiple team champion awards among the 30 across the country that were honored. There were 1,194 teams across the country that earned a team GPA of 3.0 or better.
