Bio

Danny Kambel is in his second year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communications at Spartanburg Methodist College.

In his first year at SMC (2024–25), Kambel revamped the department’s social media presence using templates from SIDELINE DESIGN to enhance pre-event and post-event publicity. He managed statistics for all home sporting events and provided post-event coverage for all competitions. As a result of his efforts in promoting student-athletes, 56 individuals received weekly honors from the Continental Athletic Conference.

Demonstrating his commitment to the complete student-athlete experience, Kambel introduced the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes with a semester GPA of 3.25 or higher. This distinction is now part of each qualifying student-athlete’s official academic record. He also submitted nominations for academic honors from the NAIA and College Sports Communicators.

Before arriving at SMC in May 2024, Kambel served as Sports Information Director at six institutions: The College of Idaho (2022–2024), Pacific University (2016–2020), LeTourneau University (2013–2016), University of Wisconsin–Platteville (2010–2012), and Texas A&M University–Commerce (2006–2010). He also held assistant positions at Florida International University (2003–2006) and Indiana State University (2001–2003), in addition to internships at Indiana University (2000–2001) and the Naval Academy Athletic Association (1999–2000). Kambel also served as a Sports Information Consultant for both The Evergreen State College and the University of the Pacific.

His accolades include the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) President's Award in 2020 for his volunteer service and leadership, the Dedication to Students Award at Pacific University in 2019, and the American Southwest Conference Sports Information Director of the Year honor in 2016. Kambel was inducted into the Columbus State Community College Sport and Exercise Studies Hall of Fame in 2006 and received the program's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2019.

He is the first Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communications in Spartanburg Methodist College history and brings decades of intercollegiate athletics experience, including work with multiple conference and national championship events.

Kambel earned an Associate of Applied Science in Sports and Fitness Management Technology from Columbus State Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Toledo. He and his wife, Charlene Vandaele, live in nearby Roebuck.
