SMC Volleyball Wins at Catawba Valley
HICKORY, NC – The SMC volleyball team posted a (3-1) victory against Catawba Valley CC Tuesday evening in Hickory, 25-22, 25-16, 17-25, 25-23.
The SMC Lady Pioneers (3-11) were led by Chelsea Smith (Landrum HS) with 13 digs, Charli Brazil (Lugoff Elgin HS) with 10 digs and Ciara Edwards (Myrtle Beach HS) with six kills and four blocks.
"We fought really hard as a team and I was really proud of the way they came together when we were down. We have finally started moving in the direction that is needed for us to be successful and I look forward to seeing how the rest of this season goes. If these young ladies work as hard as I know they can the sky is the limits," said coach Susie Williams.
The Lady Pioneers also were informed Tuesday that their Aug. 28 match versus Southern Union State College, in the Wallace State Community College Tournament, was forfeited due to an NJCAA violation - and the win is awarded to SMC, which improves their overall record to 3-11.
SMC will take on Johnson and Wales University, Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 pm at Bridges Arena.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment this August. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
