Wallace State Claims SMC Pioneer Classic Title
SPARTANBURG, SC- Teams from Texas, Florida, Alabama, North
Carolina and South Carolina made up the field for the 4th Annual
SMC Pioneer Volleyball Classic, which started Friday and concluded
Sunday with Wallace State College (Alabama) defeating North Lake
College (Texas) 3-0 in the championship game.
Wallace State went undefeated for the tournament and defeated the
Pioneers 3-0 Saturday morning, 25-16, 25-13, 25-16.
The Pioneers had a rough weekend facing a very tough field of teams
going 0-4.
"This is a great learning experience for the girls. Anytime
you have a chance to play such high caliber opponents it will make
you better in the long run," says coach Susie Williams.
The Pioneers and Wallace State both participated in the NJCAA
National Championships last year and both know the importance of
playing a high level of competition.
The Pioneers, 1-8, play at home on Tuesday to host Toccoa
Falls College at 7 pm.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that
compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic
Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and
West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality
education to students in a Christian environment this August. More
than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other
institutions of higher learning.
