No. 7 Pioneers Sweep Guilford Tech
Greensboro, NC – The No. 7 Pioneers swept a doubleheader
against Guilford Tech Community College on Saturday.
The Pioneers (41-8, 25-5) shut out Guilford in a five-inning affair
in game one, 10-0, and routed Guilford in game two, 17-3.
With the two wins, the Pioneers clinched first place in Region
X.
Josh Adams pitched a complete-game shutout in game one, allowing
five hits and striking out three. Corey Rhoney, went six
innings in game two and allowed seven hits while striking out eight
batters.
Sloan Gilliam went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs in game
two to lead SMC at the plate.
Sunday's scheduled doubleheader with GTCC was postponed due
to rain and will not be rescheduled.
The Pioneers hit the road Tuesday afternoon traveling to Allendale,
SC to play USC Salkehatchie in a doubleheader.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that
compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic
Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia,
and West Virginia. The College is in its 99th year of providing
quality education to students in a Christian environment.
More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at
other institutions of higher learning.
