Pioneers' Winning Streak Grows to 29
FLORENCE, SC – The SMC Pioneers baseball team extended its
winning streak to 29 on Sunday with two more wins over and a
weekend sweep of Florence-Darlington Technical College.
Sophomore John Long (T.L. Hanna HS / Anderson, SC) picked up the
14-2 game one win and went 4-for-1 on the season.
Marty Gantt (North Augusta HS / North Augusta, SC) continued on a
weekend tear to go 2-for-2, with one homerun, two RBIs and four
runs.
Sophomore Sloan Gilliam (Dorman HS / Moore, SC) went 2-for-2, with
two homeruns and five RBIs.
Gantt took the mound in game two and pitched a 5-2 win, to go 2-0
on the season.
Sophomores Nick Ferguson (Lancaster HS / Lancaster, SC) and O.B.
Johnson (Brookland Cayce HS / Gaston, SC) both put up homeruns,
while Rob Harding (Spring Valley HS / Columbia, SC) went
2-for-3.
The Pioneers are at home on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18
in 1 pm doubleheaders both days against Pitt Community College.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that
compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic
Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia,
and West Virginia. The College is in its 99th year of providing
quality education to students in a Christian environment.
More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at
other institutions of higher learning.
