SMC Baseball Announces All Decade Teams
SPARTANBURG, SC – The Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneer baseball program has honored its players of the last 10 years by naming its All-Decade Teams for the 2000s.
The SMC Pioneers attained many notable accomplishments from 2000-2009.
During that time, the Tim Wallace-led Pioneers made four trips out west to Grand Junction, CO to compete in the Junior College World Series (2001, 2003, 2007, 2009). The record for most wins in a season was broken three times (2003 - 51 wins, 2007 - 54 wins, 2009 - 55 wins) by three different teams. The class (two years) with the most wins in SMC history was also established during this period with the 2002-2003 team winning 101 games.
SMC has looked backed to evaluate the numbers in order to create an impressive 1st and 2nd All-Decade Team and is pleased to announce the following All-Decade lineups:
1st Team:
Catcher: Stanley Nix (2000) – Though a two-year member of the squad, Stanley hit .421 with 18 doubles, 14 homeruns, and drove in 61 runs during his one year of the decade - while becoming a 2nd Team All-American. Nix went on to play at The College of Charleston.
1B: Hank Parks (2001-2002) – hit .378 with 22 doubles, 36 homeruns (25 coming in '02), and 132 RBIs. Parks played in JUCO World Series in 2001 while becoming a 1st Team All-American in 2002. He went on to play at the University of South Carolina.
2B: Demetrick Drumming (2000-2001) – hit .343 with 27 doubles, 5 triples, 26 homeruns, 108 RBIs. He played on the 2001 World Series team. A Los Angeles Dodgers draft pick after his Freshman year, Drumming went on to play at the University of South Carolina Aiken.
3B: Lee Curtis (2000-2001) – hit .381 with 30 doubles, nine triples, 13 homeruns and 95 RBIs. He played on the 2001 World Series team. Curtis went on to play at The College of Charleston and was twice named Southern Conference Player of the Year. He was also drafted in the 7th round by the Boston Red Sox.
SS: Bryan Triplett (2001-2002) – hit .368 with 37 doubles, four triples, and 106 RBIs. He not only played on the 2001 SMC World Series team, but also appeared in the NCAA World Series with USC, hitting homeruns in both Grand Junction and Omaha. A 3rd Team NJCAA All-American in 2002, Triplett went on to become a 12th round pick of the Houston Astros.
OF: BJ Richmond (2004) – hit .422 with 15 doubles, 7 triples, 11 homeruns, and drove in 60 runs. Richmond was drafted in the 7th round by the Dodgers and signed a professional contract after his only year at SMC.
OF: Adam Crisp (2005) – hit .417 with 19 doubles, 3 triples, 14 homeruns and 62 RBIs. Crisp was a 1st Team All-American and went on the University of South Carolina after an impressive freshman campaign.
OF: Allen Caldwell (2007-2008) – hit .382 with a school record 43 doubles,four triples, 25 homeruns, and 154 RBIs. Caldwell hit .357, with three doubles, three homeruns, and had 10 RBIs in the 2007 World Series and was named to the All World Series Team. He was named an All-American after his freshman season and also played on the NJCAA All-Star squad. Caldwell was drafted and signed in the 12th round by the Kansas City Royals after being verbally committed to Clemson University.
DH: Drew Martin (2004-2005) – hit .360 with 32 doubles (21 in freshman year), 13 homeruns, and drove in 89 runs. He started 111 games in two years. Martin went on to attend the University of South Carolina.
SP: Mark Ferguson (2000-2001) – posted a 16-2 record with four complete games and a 2.29 Earned Run Average. The left handed Ferguson pitched in the 2001 JUCO World Series and later attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
SP: Bobby White (2001-2002) – posted a 19-4 record (3rd place all time in wins) with a 3.24 ERA. White became a 3rd Team All-American after posting 11 wins and pitching in the 2001 World Series during his freshman year. He was a 31st round pick of the Detroit Tigers but opted to attend the University of South Carolina.
SP: Josh Salay (2008-2009) – posted a 20-2 record (2nd place all time in wins) with a 3.72 ERA while logging 135.3 innings pitched. He pitched on the record setting 2009 World Series Team. Salay currently attends The College of Charleston.
RP: Patrick Mincey (2008-2009) – posted a 5-1 record with a school record 22 saves. Mincey also holds the single season saves record (13). He has a career ERA of 1.16 and won the Relief Pitcher of the Year for Region X in 2009. Mincey pitched for the 2009 World Series Team and now attends Francis Marion University.
Utility: Marty Gantt (2009) – a current Pioneer who had an impressive freshman campaign in which he hit .410 with 10 doubles, 4 triples, 21 homeruns, 70 RBIs while going 8-2 on the mound with a 1.85 ERA. Gantt hit four homeruns (three in one game) and was given the Homa Thomas Sportsmanship Award (typically given to a team) at the 2009 World Series. He also received Honorable Mention All-American. He has committed to and signed with The College of Charleston.
2nd Team:
C: Matt Stocco (2002-2003) – hit .333 with 26 doubles, 3 triples, 25 homeruns and 110 runs batted in. He played on the 2003 World Series team and went on to play at Elon University. Stocco signed as a free agent with the San Diego Padres and reached the AA level. He is currently playing in the Italian Professional Baseball League.
1B: Ross Hanna (2009) – hit .416 with 16 doubles, 16 homeruns, and drove in 70 runs. He was 1st Team All Region and a part of the 2009 World Series Team. Hanna is currently playing at The College of Charleston.
2B: Brooks Robinson (2007) – hit .359 with 24 doubles, two triples, eight homeruns, and 50 RBIs. Robinson hit .480 with two doubles and one homerun while being named to the All World Series Team in 2007. In his only year as a Pioneer he set the single season hit record with 101. Robinson went on to play at Georgia State and College.
3B: Keon Graves (2007) – hit .266 with 10 doubles, 10 homeruns, and drove in 36 runs. Graves defensive abilities helped SMC to the 2007 World Series where he received the Jay Tolman Defensive Award. He continued his playing career at Francis Marion University.
SS: Jordy Snyder (2004-2005) – hit .358 with 24 doubles, two triples, and 12 homeruns. He later went on to Elon University and then served as an Assistant Coach on the 2009 World Series team while working with infielders.
OF: Jerome Davenport (2001-2002) – hit .358 with 23 doubles, eight triples, seven homeruns, and 74 RBIs. He was a member of the 2001 World Series Team. Davenport was unable to continue his playing career due to an illness after SMC.
OF: Dwayne Lynah (2003, 2005) – hit .360 with 27 doubles, seven triples, eight homeruns, 79 runs batted in, scored 124 runs and had 225 total bases. Lynah was a part of the 2003 World Series Team and a Seattle Mariners draft pick.
OF: Ryan Wilkins (2006-2007) – hit .351 with 17 doubles, two triples, 70 RBIs and stole 10 bases. He was part of the 2007 World Series Team. Wilkins went to the University of South Carolina and later transferred to the University of South Carolina Upstate.
Utility: Steve Cochrane (2009) – hit .370 with 15 doubles, one triple, 10 homeruns and 65 runs batted in as the three-hole hitter on the 2009 World Series Team. Cochrane has been drafted twice by the Oakland A's and is currently playing at Georgia Southern University.
DH: Jacob Wallace (2007-2008) – hit .351 with 29 doubles, 12 homeruns, and 92 RBIs. He was a member of the 2007 World Series Team in which he homered. Wallace currently plays at Francis Marion University.
SP: Josh Evans (2002-2003) – posted a 16-2 record (10-1 as sophomore) with a 2.72 ERA while logging 106 innings pitched. He picked up the only win at the Junior College World Series for the 2003 team. Evans later attended Charleston Southern and then pitched professionally in the Golden League with the Reno Silver Sox.
SP: Nic Godwin (2005-2006) – posted a 17-4 record with a 2.80 ERA while logging 139 innings pitched in his two years. He holds the all time career strikeout record with 169. Godwin was a part of the 2006 team that won the Region Championship and played in the District Tourney. He later went on to pitch at the University of South Carolina.
SP: Jeff Dulaney (2007-2008) – posted a 17-6 record with a 2.24 earned run average while logging 144.1 innings pitched. Dulaney was a part of the 2007 World Series Team that finished 3rd. After SMC he attended The College of Charleston.
RP: Jordan Costner (2005-2006) – posted a 9-1 record with 18 saves with a 2.18 ERA while logging 57.2 innings pitched. His 2006 season was record setting in which he posted a 0.36 ERA with 12 saves. Costner was a member of the 2006 Region X Championship Team and continued his career at the University of South Carolina.
Team of the Decade:
The 2006-2007 Pioneers have been selected as the program's Team of the Decade. The team posted a 54-15 overall record in the 2007 season, and earned both the Region X and Eastern District title. They went on to finish in 3rd place at the Junior College World Series – the best finish in school history.

Co-Players of the Decade: Hank Park (2001-2002) and Allen Caldwell (2007-2008) were selected as Co-Players of the Decade.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia. The College is in its 99th year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
