Pioneer Baseball Splits With Walters State
MORRISTOWN, TN - The SMC Pioneers' first road trip of the season ended Sunday with a weekend split against No. 7 Walters State Community College.
Sophomore Jake Koenig led the Pioneers hit attack on Saturday with two homeruns and four runs batted in.
Freshman Travis Burnside went four-for-five, while sophomores Jeffery Campbell, who went three-for-four, and Cody McElhaney each added a homerun for the Pioneers to win 15-8.
Sophomore pitcher Josh Adams (1-0) struck out five to pick up his first victory of the season.
In Sunday's game, the Pioneers were held by Walters State to just three hits and suffered their first loss of the season.
Sophomore Kyle Owings (0-1) started on the mound and recorded the 3-6 loss.
The Pioneers (3-1) return to action Thursday Feb. 25 at home against Limestone JV at 1 PM.
