SMC Posts Tight Wins Over Florence-Darlington
FLORENCE, SC – The SMC baseball put up a pair of tight
wins over Florence-Darlington Tech on Saturday to add to their
winning streak.
Pitcher Josh Adams (Midland Valley HS / Bath, SC) went 6-for-1 on
the season to get the 9-6 game one win. Sophomore Kyle Owings
(Gilbert HS / Leesville, SC) got the save.
Marty Gantt (North Augusta HS / North Augusta, SC) led the Pioneers
in hitting, going 4-for-5 and posting three RBIs and two
homeruns.
Freshman Travis Burnside (Laurens HS / Waterloo, SC) went 3-for-4
with two RBIs; Luke Tollison (Laurens Academy / Laurens, SC) also
went 3-for-4, with one RBI.
SMC followed that up with a 7-5 game two win.
Freshman pitcher Corey Rhoney (East Burke HS / Valdese, NC) got the
win and is 8-0 on the season, while Owings picked up his eighth
save of the season.
In hitting, Rob Harding (Spring Valley HS / Columbia, SC) went
2-for-3 and sophomore Sloan Gilliam (Dorman HS / Moore, SC) went
2-for-4.
The Pioneers are on a 27-game winning streak going into
Sunday's 1 pm doubleheader in Florence against
Florence-Darlington Tech.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that
compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic
Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia,
and West Virginia. The College is in its 99th year of providing
quality education to students in a Christian environment.
More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at
other institutions of higher learning.
