Pioneers Baseball Ranked 8th In NJCAA Preseason
SPARTANBURG, SC- The SMC Pioneers baseball team is ranked in the Top 10 of Division I National Junior College Athletic Association programs in the latest pre-season polls.
The Pioneers are ranked No. 8 in the nation and are the only Region X team in the pres-season Top 20. SMC and Potomac State College, whom the Pioneers defeated to advance to the 2009 JUCO World Series, are the only two Eastern District teams in those rankings.
The Pioneers' 2009 baseball season opens at home Feb. 11 with a 1 pm doubleheader against Wingate University's JV squad. SMC's first Region X game of the season will be an at-home doubleheader Feb. 27 against USC Lancaster.
SMC is coming off a record-setting 2009 season in which they went 55-9 and finished in fifth place at the JUCO World Series.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 99th year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
