Pioneers Fall in Region X Tournament
Burlington, NC – SMC could not get the bats going Saturday afternoon and was eliminated from the NJCAA Region X baseball tournament with a 6-1 loss to USC Sumter at the Burlington Athletic Park.
SMC gave up single runs in the first two innings and just did not look sharp in the field to fall down by six runs before scoring in the eighth inning.
Marty Gantt started on the mound and pitched out of some major trouble but just did not get much support from the Pioneers bats.
The Pioneers finished the season 46-10 and climbed as high as No. 6 in the NJCAA Division I Baseball poll. The Pioneers finished the season ranked No. 19.
