Pioneers Shutout Hawks
SPARTANBURG, SC- The Pioneer women and men's soccer teams Wednesday afternoon shutout the visiting Tri County Technical College Hawks, 2-0 and 4-0 respectively.
The Lady Pioneers defeated the Hawks to improve to 9-3-1 overall and 8-2 in Region 10 play.
Freshmen Kayla Kight (White Knoll HS) and Candace Jones (Ninety Six HS) scored for the Lady Pioneers.
The No. 13 Pioneer men improved to 11-2-1 overall and 9-2 in Region 10.
The Pioneers were led in scoring by David Alexander (Charlotte Christian HS), Sebastian Velasquez (Eastside HS), Sabastian Restrepo (Eastside HS), and Christian Bono (Rock Hill HS), each having a goal.
Velasquez had two assists on the day.
The Pioneer men's team is currently second place in the region. With a win Saturday, Oct. 16, they will lock first place over Cape Fear Community College.
The Pioneers will host the Cape Fear CC Sea Devils on Saturday. Game times are 2 pm and 4 pm.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
