SMC Soccer Sweeps USC Salkehatchie
ALLENDALE, SC- The Pioneers men and women's soccer teams
traveled Saturday to Allendale to take on the Indians of USC
Salkehatchie in Region 10 action.
The women continued a three-game win streak by defeating the
Indians 2-0. Emily Tucker (Chapman HS) and Kayla Kight (White
Knoll HS) scored a goal each, as a strong defense held the Indians
scoreless. Laura Weaver (West Ashley) and Candace Jones
(Ninety Six) each contributed with assist.
The Pioneers will travel Wednesday to Emory and Henry College (0-1)
to take on the Wasps in a 6 pm start.
The SMC men improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in the region with a 2-1
victory over the Indians. Christian Bono (Rock Hill HS) paced
the Pioneers with two goals. Devin Jeanfreau (Greenville Tech
Charter HS) and Miguel Lozano (Riverside HS) both had assists.
Sebastian Velasquez (Eastside) received a red card 20 minutes into
the game on a collision in the box that could have gone either way
and will have to miss the Sept. 7 game verses Belmont Abbey JV at
SMC.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that
compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic
Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and
West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality
education to students in a Christian environment this August. More
than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other
institutions of higher learning.
