Sumter, S.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College women's basketball team erased a 29-28 halftime deficit and outscored the Hornets of Morris College by 17 in the final 20 minutes en route to a 73-57 win on Tuesday night.
SMC (10-14, 5-4 CAC) was led by the 21-point effort from Najah Gilliam as it was a complete team effort for the win. Gilliam paced four Pioneers in double figures with Destiny Middleton (14) and JaiDah Liebert and Latavius Wilson (10). Emiya Gallman had five points and a team-best seven rebounds; Mia Hansen had three points and three assists; Zy Bell had six points, eight rebounds and three assists and Krystal Johnson had four points in the win.
Morris was led by Damani Wilson, who had 20 points on 7 of 17 shooting from the field including 2 for 7 from beyond the arc to lead the Hornets.
A 12-2 run midway through the third quarter put the Pioneers ahead 44-36 with 1:47 left in the period. SMC managed to outscore Fisher, 27-13 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Next, SMC will host Voorhees on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. as part of Senior Day festivities where the Pioneers will recognize Emiya Gallman.
