Pioneers Build Momentum with Qualifiers and Program Milestones at Camel City Sprints
WINSTON SALEM, NC - The Spartanburg Methodist College women's indoor track & field team delivered a strong showing at the Camel City Sprints on Friday, highlighted by championship-qualifying performances and historic program milestones as the Pioneers continue to build momentum heading into the postseason.
Freshman Makhia Williams secured a spot in the upcoming AAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a qualifying time of 8.29 in the 60-meter dash. Fellow freshman Eva Sapp punched her ticket in a second event, finishing the 200-meter dash in 27.39—a mark that stands as the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Friday's meet also marked a historic moment for the Pioneers, as Tieranny Jeter and Jayla Bivings became the first race walkers in Spartanburg Methodist College track & field history. Jeter led the duo by crossing the finish line in 27:29.65, narrowly edging Bivings, who followed closely with a time of 27:30.82.
SMC will next turn its attention to the AAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for Feb. 19–20 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
