Pioneers Come Up Short in 3-2 Loss to St. Andrews
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – All five matches went to a deciding third set as the Spartanburg Methodist College beach volleyball team fell 3-2 to St. Andrews on Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers secured victories from their No. 2 pair, Hana Vucinic and Makinnley Smart, who outlasted their SAU counterparts 21-17, 15-21, 15-9. The other win came from the No. 4 duo of Bailey Beck and Brook Noe, who triumphed 21-16, 10-21, 15-6.
Among the hard-fought losses was the No. 1 pairing of Brantlie James and Katherine James, who fell by a narrow 23-21, 21-18 margin. The No. 3 duo of Leilani Campbell and Layla VanAernem battled to a close 18-21, 21-17, 16-14 defeat, while the No. 5 pair of Tristan Craine and Arielle Deas lost 21-10, 19-21, 15-7.
SMC will conclude the regular season with a 10 a.m. matchup against Truett-McConnell and a noon contest against Brenau. All the action will take place at the Upward Sports Center.
