SMC’s Ryan Hunter Named AAC Runner of the Week After Record-Breaking Performance
WALESKA, Ga. – Spartanburg Methodist College junior Ryan Hunter has been recognized as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Hunter delivered a breakout performance at the season-opening Converse Kick-Off, finishing 11th overall with a personal-best time of 19:53.3 in the 6K race at the Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg on Friday. Competing against a strong field of primarily NCAA Division II programs, Hunter stood out as the top NAIA finisher.
“This is a tremendous honor for Ryan and a great way to start the season,” said SMC Head Coach Jannai Maxwell. “He has worked extremely hard, and this recognition is a reflection of his commitment and determination.”
The weekly honor is the first of Hunter’s collegiate career and the first for the Pioneers this season. His performance sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting year for SMC cross country.
