Bio
Kevin Cotrell is in his second season as the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Spartanburg Methodist College.
In his first season, Cotrell led the men’s team to a third-place finish at the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Championships. The team also placed third at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout and fourth at the Bruins Golf Classic. Freshman Lane Carr earned CAC Men’s Golfer of the Week honors three times, while sophomore A.J. Bolin earned all-conference honors with a third-place finish at the CAC Championship and claimed the individual title at the ALC Invitational (Oct. 28–29). The Pioneers recorded their best team round of the season with a 294 (+6) in the final round of the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout, highlighted by three individual rounds under par, including a 69 by Parker Harrigan.
On the women’s side, SMC finished fifth at the CAC Championships. Isabella Marz led the way with a season-best round of 78 in the second round of The Last Shot tournament. She was named CAC Women’s Golfer of the Week twice (March 17 and April 15).
Cotrell brought a diverse background to SMC, having served as a Golf Tournament Director and golf caddy/instructor. He also coached football and lacrosse at Spartanburg High School, adding to his experience in athlete development.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Cotrell served 17 years as an FAA Air Traffic Controller and Training Specialist, where he excelled in managing high-pressure situations and making split-second decisions to ensure flight safety.
Cotrell is also a U.S. Navy veteran, having served as a Petty Officer. During his service, he remained actively involved in sports, both as a player and coordinator of athletic events.
