Men’s Hoops Take Down Aiken Tech
SPARTANBURG, SC- The Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers vaulted to the top of the Region X standings over regional rival Aiken Tech Thursday with a 61-50 win.
The Pioneers played to a charged crowd, despite several changes in possession, to lead 33-25 at the half.
"We knew going into tonight's game would be a big game for us, any time we play Aiken Tech. They really compete and challenge us on the defensive end. I thought we came out focused; and our defense was top notch," said coach Rob Burke.
Coming into the second half the Pioneers kept up with the strong defense and went to work with their passing game to stay ahead of the Knights.
"Again our defensive got us off to a great start. Then, offensively, we found gaps and penetrated the ball. Overall, it was a good night for us but it is early in our region play," said Burke.
The Pioneers are now 3-1 in Region X and 14-6 overall. The next game for the Pioneers is this Saturday versus Cape Fear Community College at 3 PM.
