Pioneers Defeat Indians
SPARTANBURG, SC- The SMC soccer teams both got wins on their home field Wednesday over the USC Salkehatchie Indians.
Sophomore Jenna Thompson (Belton Honea Path) scored in the second overtime period to lift the Lady Pioneers to a 1-0 victory . They are now 6-1 in Region 10 and 7-2-1 overall.
In the second game, the No. 15 ranked Pioneer men's team scored in the first two minutes and never looked back to take a 6-1 win and improve to 7-1 in Region 10 and 8-1 overall.
Six different Pioneers scored in the match, Sebastain Valesquez (Eastside HS), Sebastain Restrepo (Eastside HS), Miquel Teos (Eastside HS), David Alexander (Charlotte Christian), Devin Jeanfreau (Greenville Tech Charter HS), and Cory Farnsworth (Spartanburg Homeschool).
The women return to action Oct. 6 at Louisburg College.
The men host matches this weekend against No. 7 Georgia Perimeter on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 2 pm and Region 10 foe Wake Tech on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 pm.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
