SMC Men Win, Women Fall at Cape Fear
WILMINGTON, NC - The SMC soccer teams split on the road
Saturday in Region X action against Cape Fear Community
College.
The Pioneer men's team dominated the Cape Fear Sea Devils,
4-1, and improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the region.
The Pioneers used a balanced scoring attack, getting goals from
Miquel Teos (Eastside HS), Carlos Berrio (Eastside HS), Sebastian
Velasquez (Eastside HS), and Mateo Zapata (Mauldin HS).
The Lady Pioneers' team fell behind 2-0 in the first five minutes
of the game and could only score one goal, by Candace Jones (Ninety
Six HS), to close out the 2-1 defeat.
The women fell to 4-2-1 overall and 3-1 in Region 10.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday, Sept. 22 at home against
Region 10 rival Louisburg College. Game times are 2 and 4
pm.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that
compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic
Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and
West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality
education to students in a Christian environment this August. More
than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other
institutions of higher learning.
