Men finish third @ Winthrop Invitational- Austin Stegall breaks school record!
The Pioneer men distance runners continue to dominate at the local events and are on pace to do something special this season. Currently the men are ranked 7th in the nation for D1 - NJCAA teams.
The team recently finished third overall just behind host Winthrop (NCAA-D1). The main story was Freshman Austin Stegall (Gaffney, SC). Austin broke the 8k school record time set in 2006 by placing 11th overall with a 26:23.60 time.
"Austin had great pace and was very smooth througout the course. We wanted the guys to not get caught up sprinting out too quick and just work in their groups. Something clicked wether it was the course or Austin just felt great today."
Austin wasn't the only one to have a good day.. The Pioneers defeated Wingate, Mars Hill College, Gardner Webb, and Wofford. Max Peter Bejmer (26:43.19) finished 21st and Brett Morley (26:47.19) finished 23rd.
