Lady Pioneers Steal Win from Denmark Tech Panthers
SPARTANBURG, SC - The Spartanburg Methodist College Lady Pioneers posted a 78-68 win Thursday night over the Denmark Technical College Panthers.
Sophomore point guard Kendra Brown led the Pioneers' defense in the first half with three steals and help from Freshman guard Starrcree Mixon who nailed two additional steals.
The Pioneers defense kept the Panthers down 18 to 31 at the half.
"The first half was a defensive half for us," said SMC coach Melissa Nafzger.
After the half, the Pioneers kept the defense strong allowing their offense to have more opportunities to extend the lead. With three more steals by the Pioneers, the shots started to fall and SMC clinched the win.
"The second half was sparked by Kendra's defense and point guard leadership. The team was able to push through inconsistent play and foul trouble throughout the second half by executing off our defense," said Nafzger.
The Lady Pioneers are now 3-1 in Region X and 9-10 overall. They are on the road against Guilford Technical Community College Titans this Saturday.
