Pioneers have strong showing in App State Open
On Sat. 1/28/12 the SMC wresting team traveled to the Appalachian State University open wrestling tournament in Boone, NC.
The Pioneers competed against many Division 1 and 2 wrestling programs including teams like - NC State, Citadel, App State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Chattanooga, Duke, Gardner-Webb, UNC Pembroke, Limestone, West Virginia Tech., Belmont Abbey and many others.
SMC Highlight - At 184 pound weight class Mateo Rojas defeated Duane from the Citadel to earn a spot in the finals. Mateo went on to lose a close decision to the Jesse Johnson from Appalachian State in a close decision. to earn a 2nd place finish in this tough tournament.
The other members of the SMC Wrestling team wrestled well with one of them going all the way to the consolation semi-finals just missing a chance to compete for 3rd place.
Coming events - The SMC Wrestlers will host their final home dual meet on Fri. Feb. 3rd at 7:00pm.
They will then prepare to compete in the Regional Qualifier on Feb 10th in Lancaster PA.
