Lady Pioneer Soccer shutout USC-Lancaster to open the season
The Pioneers (1-0, 1-0 Region X) had every excuse in the book to not play well today. Opening game jitters, tons of injuries, playing on the road against a region opponent, were all worthy excuses.
The Lady Pioneers just chose to ignore them and they came out firing on all cylinders! SMC led 2-0 at the half but continued to out shoot the Lancers by a total of 17-3 in the match enroute to a 6-0 handling of USC-L.
The Lady Pioneers delivered just as Coach Kenneally had hoped before the game. contributions from everyone on the team. Freshman Cierra Wall had two goals and one assist in her first collegiate match. Wall was joined by fellow freshmen Kayla Bishop one goal and one assist, Shy Gordon one goal, and Elizabeth Sugden one goal and one assist. Sophomore Kayla Kight also added 25 yard free kick strike for a goal for the Pioneers. Sophomore Laura Weaver added an assist also.
Sophomore goalie Tori Waddell (three saves) stopped what the stingy Pioneer defense didn't.
