Skelly Breaks School Record To Claim No. 1 At Piedmont Invitational

CLARKESVILLE, GA – SMC sophomore Corrine Skelly set a school record at the Piedmont Corrine SkellyCollege Invitational at The Orchard Golf and Country Club this week in Clarkesville, GA.

Skelly (Pendleton, SC / Pendleton HS) finished even at par to claim 1st  place at the event, setting a school record individual finish by seven strokes.  This was also only the second individual 1st place finish in the three-year history of the program.

Her performance led the SMC team to a 5th place (348, +60) overall finish in the nine-team event.

Rounding out the women's team individually were Takima Butler (86, +14) who tied for 13th place; Kaitlyn Prescott (87, +15), who finished in a 15th place tie; Jenna Thompson (103, +31), who tied at 39th; and Lauran Hubbert (109, +37) who landed in a tie in at 43rd.

"Corinne's performance in the Piedmont Invitational was exceptional. She has shown in practice her capabilities and obviously this was proved in this event. Hopefully she can build on this accomplishment. As far as the team, our 4th score needs to improve if we are to realistically contend in events and I look for better results next week at Tusculum," says head coach Kyle Owings.

The SMC women's team finishes its fall pre-season Sept. 27-29 at Tusculum College's Fall Invitational in Greeneville, TN.
