SMC looks sharp @ Gamecock Open
SMC took home wins in three events, set two school records and set a fieldhouse record at the Gamecock Open at University of South Carolina last night in Columbia.
Highlights:
Freshman Austin Steagall won the men's 3,000 meters in 8:42.67, becoming the first SMC male to run sub-9, setting the school record for the distance and setting a USC Fieldhouse record by 10 seconds. SMC had three of the first five finishers as Max Peter Bejmer, fourth, and Brett Morley, fifth, ran 9:14.91 and 9:19.78 respectively.
Sophomore Eliza Parker won the women's 3,000 meters in 10:51.76, becoming the first SMC female to run sub-11 and setting the school record for the distance.
Sophomore Erik Surfus won his heat of the 800 meters coming from behind in the last 30 meters to take the win in 2:09.37. Overall, Surfus finished 5th of 12 runners in two heats.
