BACK to BACK REGION X TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

Usually, a coaching change could cause a set back with any program. Just not the SMC Pioneer men's soccer team...  A couple early season hiccups but other than that the Pioneers dominated the regular season and the first two rounds of the Region X tournament. 

Sundays match had the makings of a classic for either team.

Louisburg quickly jumped out in front of the Pioneers 2-0 in the first 15 minutes but two goals by Miguel Teos tied the match in the first half and the Pioneer defense continued to tighten..

Mid way through the second half, Thomas Acosta drilled one in the back of the net to give the Pioneers a 3-2 lead. With Louisburg having to go on the attack SMC countered and Sebastian Valasquez scored making it 4-2 SMC and dashing any hopes the Canes had on coming back. 

Last season the Pioneers had to travel to Georgia for the district championships. This year is different and Spartanburg Methodist College will serve host to the Championship match ups. SMC has won 11 in a row and will look to advance to the NJCAA National Championship tourney..
