Kenneally Named Coach of the Year for Southern Division
SPARTANBURG, SC -- Spartanburg Methodist College head men's soccer coach Dan Kenneally was recently honored as a Coach of the Year for the accomplishments of the 2010 SMC men's soccer team.
The National Junior College Athletic Association/MONDO presented Kenneally with the Coach of the Year Award for Junior College Men Division I - South.
The award is one of four that are given annually on a regional basis. Award recipients are voted on by all junior college members in their division.
"It was a great honor to be named the South Region Coach of the Year because the award is voted on by your peers. The award is a reflection on how our team played. We had a good year, finishing 13th in the nation with a 15-3-1 record, and I am very proud of our team," Kenneally says.
Kenneally has served as the head coach of the SMC men's soccer team since 1995, which he has coached to a 146-104-22 record. Under his leadership since 1997, the SMC women's team has claimed a 116-97-17 record.
Being named a regional coach of the year, he was also nominated as national Coach of the Year, an honor that went to Steve Clements, coach of the 2010 national champions Tyler Junior College.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
