SMC Men's Soccer Defeats Belmont Abbey JV
SPARTANBURG, SC – Christian Bono's (Rock Hill HS) four goals led the Pioneers to a 7-1 victory over Belmont Abbey JV on Thursday.
Sebastian Velasquez (Eastside HS) chipped in two goals and four assists.
The No. 14 Pioneers finished the regular season 13-2-1 and claim the top spot heading into the Region 10 soccer tournament this weekend in Wilmington, NC.
The Pioneers will face Louisburg, the 4th seed, at 9 am Saturday. The Pioneers defeated the Hurricanes twice during the regular season, 7-3 at home and 2-0 at Louisburg.
On Wednesday, the Lady Pioneers defeated Tri County Tech, 6-1, in the first round game of the Region 10 Tournament and will head to Wilmington to face 3rd seeded USC Salkehatchie at 3 pm Saturday. The Lady Pioneers defeated USC Salk, 2-0 and 1-0, during the regular season.
Erin West (Chapman HS) scored 2 goals and Kayla Kight (White Knoll HS) scored 1 goal, with 2 assist to lead the Lady Pioneers to their 11th victory of the year.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
