No. 7 SMC Takes on Darton Saturday for Southeast Title
SPARTANBURG, SC - The Pioneer soccer team moved up to No. 7 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Junior College poll released this week.
The Pioneers will face No. 6 Darton College in the Southeast District title game Saturday at 6 pm in at Darton in Albany, GA. With a win the Pioneers will advance to the NJCAA Division I Soccer Championships in Tyler, Texas, November 18-21.
Both the SMC men's and women's teams were well represented on the 2010 All Region 10 teams.
On the men's side, Sebastian Restrepo (Taylors, SC / Eastside HS) and Miguel Teos (Greenville, SC / Eastside HS) were named to the All-Region 1st Team.
Miguel Lozano (Greer, SC / Riverside HS), Joey Houdashaldt (Aiken, SC / South Aiken HS), and Christian Bono (Rock Hill, SC / Rock Hill HS) received All-Region 2nd Team honors.
Receiving Honorable Mention recognition were Diego Ampuero Gac (Mauldin, SC / Mauldin HS) and John Prochak (Spartanburg, SC / Spartanburg HS)
Named to the Women's All-Region 1st Team were Erin West (Inman, SC / Chapman HS), Emily Tucker (Campobello, SC / Chapman HS), and Kayla Kight (Lexington, SC / White Knoll HS).
All-Region 2nd Team honors went to Jessica Mentrup, (North Augusta, SC / North Augusta HS), Jenna Thompson (Belton, SC / Belton Honea Path HS), and Candace Jones (Greenwood, SC / Ninety Six HS)
Freshman goalkeeper Tori Wadell (Greenville, SC / Wade Hampton HS) received an All-Region Honorable Mention.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
