Soccer Teams Split with Tri County Tech
PENDLETON, SC – The SMC Pioneers split a Region 10 doubleheader Thursday with Tri County Technical College, with the SMC women winning 5-0 and the men suffering their first loss of the season, 2-1 in overtime.
In the first match, the Pioneers got two goals each from Emily Tucker (Chapman HS) and Tori Waddell (Wade Hampton HS) to shut out the Hawks.
Candace Jones (Ninety Six HS) helped the cause with two assists as goalkeeper Heather Hale (White Knoll HS) got the shutout victory.
The Lady Pioneers are currently 4-1-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 10.
The Pioneers men's team played to a 1-1 tie in regulation with the Hawks, before losing in overtime 2-1.
Carlos Berrio (Eastside HS) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers who are now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Region 10.
Both teams will play Region 10 foe Cape Fear CC, Saturday, September 18 in Wilmington, NC.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment this August. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
