Stingy second half defense lead Pioneers in rout

Spartanburg Methodist College head coach Jeff Brookman really must have some great half time speeches or the guys just like getting his blood pressure up a little. Leading Erskine's JV squad 32-22 at the half, Brookman and the Pioneers (4-1) were glad they had the lead, but not totally happy with how the first half went.

The second half?   Different story..

SMC ran off 36 points in yet another balanced offensive attack while only allowing ten total points to the Flying Fleet. Yes.. Ten points in twenty minutes! 

"After a sluggish first 10 minutes, I thought we came out in the second half and buckled down defensively.  Anytime you can hold a team to 10 points in a half, then you have to be happy with the effort. Said head coach Jeff Brookman."

Jalen Nesbitt (12 points- 7 rebounds) and Mario Pendarvis (11 points- 6 rebounds) helped lead the Pioneers to their fourth win in a row in the decisive 68-32 win.

Coach Brookman on this Saturday's game and alumni weekend. 

"Guilford Tech will be a great test for our basketball team. They have already gone on the road and beat a very good Cape Fear team. We will have our work cut out for us on Saturday. I am looking forward to a great game and a great atmosphere during alumni weekend"
