Balanced attack leads Pioneers to win
A balanced scoring attack and a solid team defensive effort lifted the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers(2-1) to a 80-48 win against Emmanuel College JV team. The Pioneers were led in the scoring column by Freshmen Ronell Crockett (17 points) and Dajohn Rowland (14 points, 4-6 3FG). Terell Magazine also scored in double figures with 11 points on 5-6 shooting from the field. Overall the Pioneers shot 53% from the field and 12 different players scored on the night.
Defensively, the Pioneers were just as dominant. They held Emmanuel to just 36% shooting on night. Mario Pendarvis led the Pioneers with eight rebounds, all of which were defensive rebounds.
"This was once again a total team effort" stated head coach Jeff Brookman, "We got a several key contributions from guys off the bench. I thought both Cory Rush (on the defensive end) and Dajohn Rowland (on the offensive end) came in and gave us some much needed energy after a lethargic first five minutes. Even after a good win like tonight, there are still several important areas of the game that we need to improve. We have to do a better job taking care of the basketball and making the simple play. We also need to step up to the free throw line and make free throws."
The Pioneers will next travel to Anderson, SC on Tuesday the 15th to take on the Anderson Trojans JV team. Tip-off for that game is at 7PM.
